Frequently asked Questions (FAQ)
What is stabilized wood?
Stabilized wood is natural wood that has been impregnated with acrylic resin using a special vacuum-pressure process. This makes it waterproof, harder, more durable, and warp-free.
Who developed the process?
The PUQ process was developed in 2002 by Reiner Hochmuth. Since 2017, his son Frederik Wunderlich has continued the ACRYHOLZ company in this tradition.
Which industries is the material suitable for?
Stabilized wood is especially suitable for knife making, jewelry, design products, art objects, and sports equipment. It is popular among woodturners, knife makers, and artisans.
What are the advantages of the material?
It is water-resistant, chemical-resistant, very hard, durable, visually unique through color stabilization – and a sustainable substitute for tropical hardwoods. It is also food-safe and non-toxic.
What coloring methods are available?
ACRYHOLZ offers uni-color (single color), bi-color (two colors), and tri-color (three colors) methods. The color direction can be customized – from bright and vibrant to elegant and dark.
Can I have my own wood stabilized?
Yes, ACRYHOLZ offers custom stabilization for customer-supplied wood. From about 13–16 liters volume, the treatment is completed in around 5 working days – individually colored, stabilized, and sealed.
Which wood species are used?
Mainly domestic softwoods such as poplar burl, birch burl, maple, and other porous woods are used – ideal for deep and even stabilization.
How can the wood be further processed?
Stabilized wood can be easily sawn, drilled, milled, sanded, polished, and glued. It is ideal for CNC machining, turning, knife handles, and many creative applications.
Is the result food-safe and non-toxic?
Yes – the acrylic resin used is REACH-compliant, non-toxic, and food-safe. It can be safely used in contact with food or skin.
