Wood for Bow Making: Riser Blanks Made of Stabilized Wood
The riser of a recurve bow or longbow needs a large, even block of wood that adds weight to the grip and looks good. Blanks of this size in stabilized wood are hard to find. ACRYHOLZ is one of the few workshops able to make sizes up to 800 x 200 x 70 mm in the color of your choice, in our own workshop in Berlin.

Why Stabilized Wood for the Riser?
- Weight: In archery, a heavy riser is considered an important factor for a steady shot, stability and less vibration on release. Thanks to the acrylic resin it contains, stabilized wood is much heavier than untreated wood and adds more mass to the riser. For many bowyers, this is the main reason to choose our material.
- Color of your choice: Each piece is stabilized and dyed individually: transparent, in one, two or three colors. That way the riser matches exactly the bow you are building, whether for yourself or for your customers.
- Dimensionally stable and easy to work: Stabilized wood warps much less, is more resistant to cracking and less sensitive to moisture than untreated wood. It can be sawn, milled, sanded and polished like hardwood.

Wood Species
- Poplar: as burl, as figured trunk wood or as plain trunk wood. The widest choice of grain patterns.
- Maple, ash, sycamore and walnut: as trunk wood with a calm, even grain.
