Stabilized Wood for Turning:
Turning Blanks and Pen Blanks

Burl wood is often a challenge on the lathe: soft spots tear out and thin walls break. Thanks to the acrylic resin it contains, stabilized wood is firmer than untreated wood, turns cleanly and can be polished to a high gloss.

Turning Tips

Use sharp tools and a moderate speed and keep the surface below 80 °C (176 °F), because the acrylic resin reacts to heat. Turning and sanding produce fine dust: use a dust mask, safety glasses and dust extraction.
