Wood for Knife Making: Handle Material Made of Stabilized Wood
A knife handle should feel good in the hand, look good and stand up to moisture, skin oils and cleaning for many years. Stabilized wood combines the look and feel of real wood with much higher dimensional stability than untreated wood. We make it using our own process in our workshop in Berlin.

Wood Species and Colors
In the shop you will find poplar burl, walnut, chestnut, box elder, spalted beech, maple, ash, sycamore and thuja burl, among others. We dye in one, two or three colors or keep the wood transparent so the natural grain stays visible. Every piece is one of a kind: you receive exactly the piece in the photo.
Why Stabilized Wood for Knife Handles?
Stabilized wood warps much less, is more resistant to cracking and less sensitive to moisture than untreated wood. It can be sawn, sanded and polished like hardwood and still remains wood. How stabilized wood compares with other knife handle materials (such as Micarta, G10, horn and natural wood) is explained in our guide: Knife handle materials compared
